Learning new programs:

AudioSauna:
A friend of mine told me that he was using this software to easily produce music. AudioSauna is an free to use browser music tool which helps you creating tracks with two different synthesizer using midi tracks. The look of this software reminds me of the look of my main music software "Cubase". At the beginning it was a bit confusing that the program did not do what I was expecting.

PRO: easy to learn; very similar to known programs; usable in the browser; awesome TAB shortcut
CONTRA: save option bug; very limited sounds; sometimes difficult steering

Audacity:
I already used this software to prepare some audio parts for an other program but I never tried making a song inside this program. I tried recording things inside Audacity and used the options of the program to edit the audio parts. I recorded a track with my guitar and created a small drumset with two pens. The recording was fast the editing took a while.

PRO: Easy to learn to record audio; many wave edit tools
CONTRA: No Midi; difficult handling to arrange the tracks; difficult layer management

Boscaceoil:
I recently found this program which looks like a 8-Bit midi track creator. I watched one short tutorial which explained the software in eight minutes and that is how extensive the program is. You can quickly learn how to create delete and row midi notes of different virtual instruments. The modification of the samples are really limited.

PRO: Super easy overview; slim workspace; helpful arranging tools
CONTRA: limited editor options; limited sound editing tools

The Richard Stallman Video:

"free software is an ethical imperative, essential respect for the users' freedom."
Free software
Open source = not the same as free software
gratis = not a synonym for open source or free software

(finally deleted my facebook accout after watching the video)

Thoughts and questions:

  • How can a free to use software proof that it is a free software like Stallman describes it?
  • Is there an ethical difference between licensed open source and gratis open source?
  • Why should proprietary software spy the user more than gratis software?
  • Doesn't software alyways has borders of usability? Every program has borders which can only be extended with open source programming.

Free software || Fair trade || good for environment
